How I Spent Flag Day

I know everyone else out there probably spent the day reading about Betsy Ross, making flag fruit salad out of strawberries, jicama and blueberries and then singing You're A Grand Old Flag with all your neighbors at your annual Flag Day Block Party.  But we had other things on our agenda...

First, I scraped lots of glue off of the cement on my patio in order to begin laying tile. (Don't get jealous on me now...)  And why can't there ever be a summer where I DON'T have to lay tile? Hmmm?  Rosa is now in the backyard and in the next few weeks this room will actually be used for something!
Yes way, Ted!

Then we all  had lunch at Firehouse Subs and this sandwich was awesome.  Go eat one as soon as you can.

Then we watched Spain beat the tar out of Ireland.  4-0 doesn't adequately express how awesome Spain is.  And I am not just saying that so Brian will send me the money he owes me.

Then we celebrated Jacob's birthday with a chocolate chip, Kit Kat, Ho-Ho cake.
(or Flaming Bonfire of  Flourishing Trumpet Torte as I like to call it...)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACOB!  You are such a stud :)

And then I decided to make this patriotic rag wreath thingy.  Because I'm crafty like that.
And my laundry room door was naked.

And since you are all on pins and needles wondering what I did yesterday, well, we went to a reptile show and saw a 15 foot Albino Burmese Python named Jessica.  This fact was found to give great amusement to my children.  Me, not so much :)

Delaying The Inevitable

I hate to say it, but I just can't keep up with writing top ten lists on a regular basis in the summer.  It was hard enough during the school year, but for right now, I think Meme Mondays will have to suffice for a regular feature around here.  And speaking of memes, I have a bonus meme for you that describes my yesterday.

After I took the kids to see this:

It was time for this:

Alright, STOP. Bubble Time!

School is out and summer has begun!  This year I decided to be a little more prepared.  Instead of letting it just "happen" every day (and probably being a little boring), two weeks ago I started making a list of things to do.  Big whoop, right?  But then I went a step further and printed out a calendar and started to actually schedule things.  It's incredible!  Then you just wake up and do what it says! I'm a flippin' genius!

So yesterday we were to make GIANT BUBBLES!  It took a little while to get the hang of it, but after ten minutes or so everyone had it down.  This cornucopia of summer delight took place, of course, after watching two more soccer games for UEFA Euro 2012.  I am loving this tournament! Takes me back to World Cup summer two years ago.  Such good memories :)

Cindy doing her best Sandy Cheeks impression

Cindy, Luke and "Caty From Down The Street" as we call her.

Luke found out that blowing them worked alright for him.

Caty From Down The Street didn't do too bad either!

Cucuface is not impressed.  Were you expecting her to be?

Now THAT'S a big bubble!
I love this picture!  Look closely and you will see the exploded bubble soap still hanging in the air from when Luke just popped it with this finger.  Kids sure make summer fun :)

A Very Slow Meme Monday

I couldn't decide if it would be too confusing to everyone to actually post the Meme Monday ON Monday.  That just shows you how things work around here.

Anyway, I decided that for today I would simply post a meme that made me laugh out loud when I saw it.  So last night while wasting tons of time on Pinterest, this one came up and got the win.  Plus, we all know how I feel about sloths....Especially ones that sit in desks.

By the way Mom, this is not one of the 7 most popular pictures that most memes on the Internet are currently made from.  This is one that just happens to be hilarious.  I know it's not a video of him flying, but it's still amazing.

Cindy and Luke Quickies

This past week while riding in the car with Luke, he told me that his best friend Ben didn't go to preschool this year.  I told Luke that preschool is optional, or that if you don't want to go, you don't have to.  When Luke heard me say this, his face displayed the biggest look of shock and injustice ever.  And then very whiningly he said, "Ugh! Well, I didn't even want to do preschool!!!"   Haha, sucker!   I have a feeling this situation will be a running theme in Luke's life....

Saturday night I was the DJ for a Single Adult dance over in St. Pete.  I have started taking Cindy with me to these dances as a combination of moral support and also because the singles have kinda come to expect her.  (They are seriously so kind and fawn over her the whole night. I love them!)  But the odds were in Cindy's favor that night because after we got all set up we discovered that the curtains to the stage behind me were broken, and thus, had to be open all night.  It might as well have been raining candy because Cindy was in heaven with all that room to bust a move.  She danced her legs off for three hours and nailed "Call Me Maybe."  I think I had about six different people ask me if she was in dance class.  One day, grasshopper.

Drying Out

So last night was the big US World Cup Soccer Qualifier game over in Tampa.  Let me just say that it's a good thing Jacob and I don't do this kind of thing very often because it was a lot of work.  We spent about four and a half total hours in the car battling traffic and parking and only 90 minutes in the stadium for the actual game.  And it rained pretty much the entire time.  But greater love hath no husband that he who lets his wife wear the one poncho we have :)  So it was definitely a little stressful getting there, and wet and crazy and crowded inside, but fun to finally see the Men's National Team in person.  Our seats were really decent and I had a pretty good view of Carlos Bocanegra during the first half, so I wasn't complaining.  As far as the outcome of the game, yes, we won 3-1, but when you consider we were playing Antigua & Barbuda - a country with a population of 87,000 - we should have obliterated them off of planet earth.  Our offense won the award for "Most unnecessary passes inside the 18."  It was ridiculous how many shots we were not taking from further out.  I mean, it's raining! It'slick and wet - you will probably get a few in out of sheer luck!  It was incredibly frustrating that we only wanted to score from 5 feet away or less.  But I guess a win's a win so on to playing Guatemala and probably losing unless we emerge from our offensive coma.

A few pictures from my lame camera with the worst zoom feature ever....

Don't look too long or you will find Waldo about 6 times....

We were soaked!  Okay, Jacob was soaked, I just had wet hair and looked like I drowned.

Ponchos ahoy!

I also have some really grainy video of Clint Dempsey scoring on his PK right in front of us.  One day I will show that to you.  But for now I will end with this story:

There were two very drunk guys (no way!) sitting right over from us and by the end of the game one of them came over to chat up the security guy standing right behind us.  In his slurred language he was asking him about why he only checks certain people's tickets and others he doesn't.  He then says, "I mean, how do you know that all these guys right here aren't totally sneaking in to these seats?"   (He is referring to the row we were sitting in)  Right then Jacob turns around to look at the guy and then he says, "Well, except for that guy, he looks really angry."   Awesome.  Jacob has that effect on people, you know? :)

In Honor

Because today is the last day of school, I thought I would show you some lost home video that I just found.  Here for your now is actual footage from my last day of school my junior year at Bartow High School.   (I was blonde and very fabulous back then.)

Or maybe I just wanted to share the song Cindy and I have been singing to each other non-stop for the last week.

Or maybe we all just need a little more Zac Efron in our lives.  He is one of my Hollywood boyfriends, after all.

If you don't dance to this or at least tap your feet, you're officially a zombie.

Meme Monday

I had this idea the other day that in order to help my mom more fully grasp the concept of what Internet memes are, I would institute Meme Mondays in Sweeneyville.  So every Monday I will post the best meme I found in the past week.

Yes, I have altered time and space to make this appear as if I posted it on the correct day.  (You've read this blog before, right?)

For the benefit of my mom, here is the official definition of a meme:

meme [meem]
noun
1.  a cultural item that is transmitted by repetition in a manner analogous to the biological transmission of genes.

Or, for actual humans to understand, it is basically a picture that gets re-captioned a zillion times and then sent out through email and Facebook to show how hilarious you are.

There are about 7 memes, or pictures, that are the most popular on the Internet right now.  Today I will start with a meme featuring "Success Kid."  This picture of a fist-pumping toddler is used to illustrate a situation of enormous success with an insignificant task. Thus,

And hopefully.....

A Luke Quickie

This story is mostly for DeAnne, who so graciously let me borrow her car yesterday for a few hours while mine was at the mechanic.  I was waiting with Luke in her car at the bus stop for Cindy.  (I conceded to let Cindy ride the bus again for a few days.  I am still not a fan, but it's just so stinkin' convenient!)  Anyway, it absolutely poured all day yesterday so as we sat there, the sound of the rain and the noise of the wipers is all we could hear.  Luke and I had basically been sitting in silence for about 10 minutes watching the horizon for Cindy's bus when Luke finally said  "Those wipers sound like they're saying "Edward."  Finally! We know what to name the Acura!  She shall be known as Bella :)
