I Need a Ride On The Teacups- Stat!

Image from Here
My brother finally made it to Florida for his med school interviews.  He already interviewed at UCF in Orlando on Thursday and Tuesday he will be at USF in Tampa.  My children and I have completely upheld our promise of keeping him totally busy since the minute he got to Lakeland.  I got tons of pictures to share over the next few days if you need the proof.  In the meantime, Brian told us that during his first interview he learned that the Disney-created city of Celebration, FL (just outside Kissimmee) now has their own hospital.   And that got me thinking....

TOP TEN WAYS YOUR HOSPITAL WOULD BE DIFFERENT IF IT WERE RUN BY DISNEY:

10.When you say your doctor is a little goofy, he really is Goofy
9. Patients are taken into surgery via log flume
8.  ER wait time is 140 minutes unless you have a Fast Pass
7.  Dinner from the cafeteria is always a giant turkey leg and funnel cake
6.  All outpatient procedures are performed at their sister clinic, It's a Small Wound After All
5.  The elevator randomly drops you 5 floors four different times before taking you to your destination
4.  Morphine only given out during Extra Magic Hours
3.  Process of coming out of anesthesia sped up by a kiss from a handsome prince
2.  You can purchase a photo of your doctor performing your surgery for only $36 in the gift shop
1.  Hospital is four square miles and has 22,000 rooms

And if you are really bored (well, obviously you are or why would you be here?) take a look at 40 Fun Facts About Disney.  Perhaps I find them so interesting because I live so close to Disney, but #8 is especially for my dad, and #26 is just for my brother, Chris :)

The Most Interesting Pre-Med Student In The World

After a conversation this morning with Brian, who was stranded overnight in the Chicago airport due to bad weather, I decided to commission myself to make this meme.

Hope you made it to Harvard! See you soon :)

A Cindy Quickie

Cindy has been learning about the Titanic at school and she has been sharing with me some of the interesting information she has learned.  Maggie, I am sure you can relate to this :)  I even pulled up a documentary on Netflix for her to watch this morning.  On the way to school she was telling me about a submarine expedition that went to the wreck and some of the artifacts they were able to recover- things like suitcases, paper money, dishes, parts of the ship, etc.  For a minute I was very entranced in thinking about just how cool it really is to be able to see things that were actually on that ship!  I mused aloud, "Wow, wouldn't you have liked to have been there?"  Cindy replied, "Well, not for the iceberg part, but for everything else, yeah."

This is what my wedding cake should have had on top...

(This came from here, by the way.  Not my image.
Does this mean I can't make it my new Facebook profile picture?)

America's Pastime, While Watching A Baseball Game

As I mentioned in the last post, while I was with Cindy at her softball game on Thursday night, my parents took Luke to his t-ball game.  My dad was texting me updates during the evening.  Here are my favorites:

"1st inning...Luke catches a fly at second base...a dragon fly, unfortunately"

"Still first inning....Luke slides in safe.....at the pitcher's mound"

"Luke is now playing the field and playing in the hole....no, seriously, he's playing in a hole"

"Luke just skinned his elbow sliding into the pitcher's mound....classic"

"He finally covered third when the ball was hit....well, fell over and completely covered third, anyway"

"Luke at bat, solid single to the middle....he's standing on first with his hands out, surfing...."

"Just got lapped while running home....the run will count because the scorekeeper was laughing..."

Kinda makes you wish you were there, huh?

And also, I would like to announce that Friday was crazy hat day, so we finally got some extra mileage out of previous Halloween costumes and t-ball hats.

A Cindy Softball Quickie

Both the kids had games last night, so with the help of my parents we divided and conquered.  And I finally remembered to take some pictures of Cindy.  Her team is a bit inexperienced, shall we say, so I have to remind Cindy that this is just about having fun and giving thanks for the 5-run rule.  Which is our team's greatest defensive weapon so far :)

The funniest part of the night was right after their teams' first time playing the field.  Our coach had just made a huge announcement that if anyone was able to catch a fly ball and make an out, he would buy the entire team ice cream!!  (Sadly, it's a pretty safe bet.)  However, the girls were all squealing as visions of McFlurries danced in their heads.  When the inning was over (and no one had caught a fly ball despite a few good opportunities) Cindy slipped through the dug out to come and talk to me.  She had been playing outfield and seemed very miffed.  She sat down next to me and said, "Did you hear what coach just promised us??  Ugggh!!!  It's like they aren't even TRYING up there!!!"  Coach has no idea what he's done.   In the mean time- pictures!

Warming up with her awesome arm.

On deck...

First up was an RBI double!

Sadly, she was left on base when 3 outs came :(

Second up was this great hit, however, it was foul.  And then she struck out :(

The after-game pep talk.  Coach Spears is actually a great guy, Cindy hangs on his every word.  Even when it doesn't involve ice cream.

I did ask Cindy if she actually likes softball enough to really practice and play and keep this going.  She said yes!  Sweet.  Now I have to erase the fact that she knows I quit softball to dance for 6 years.....

Memes, Mormon Style

According to the stats feature on Blogger, any time I post memes, my hits go way up.  Like, through the roof.  I don't want to brag, but my last day of memes got over 20 hits.  (In all seriousness though, the post I did of cat memes so far has 336 hits.  Which, for me, is astronomical!  Cats rule!)  So who am I to not keep the gravy train going?  I now present some sweet Mormon memes.  Sorry if you aren't Mormon. And not just because you probably won't understand these, but rather because being Mormon is terrific! I highly recommend it :)

***I OWN NONE OF THESE MEMES. I GOOGLED/FACEBOOKED FOR THEM AND VOILA! THEY APPEARED.

He's The Money I Could Be Saving By Switching To Geico

So I went to bed really late on Saturday night and therefore slept in a little longer than usual on Sunday morning.  Which gave Luke a few more opportunities than normal to be awake and then decide to come in at my bedside and watch me with his gigantic eyeballs.  And ask me questions in my slumberiffic stupor.  This is what it looked like on my end:

(Just for reference, you know those little things you can buy that you put in water and they grow 400% in size?  Well, we have a skeleton we are growing right now.)

One day I'm definitely going to miss this little face at my bedside :)

Career Day

This past Friday was Career Day for the Kindergartners at South McKeel.  Back when Cindy was that old she REFUSED to participate in Career Day.  I could not convince her with any sort of bribery or reward in the entire world.  She simply would have none of that nonsense.  I am not quite sure why she was so against it, although it probably had something to do with the fact that "princesses and fairies [were] not acceptable career day options."  Thus far in his short life, Luke has never really before expressed any opinion on what he wants to be when he grows up, so I was curious to see what he would choose for Career Day.  He described it as a "worker guy that makes buildings."  I interpreted that as a construction worker, but whenever I suggested borrowing some fake tools or putting on a tool belt, he was very adamant that he did not need those.  So I guess he wants to be an "ark-tuh-teck."  Thanks to Ben Bailey for letting us borrow the hat and thanks to my mom's magical craft armoire that always seems to have the one thing I need.  This time is was rolled blue paper for Luke's blueprint of "the Church."  And I was very proud of Luke for not freaking out when I put a pencil behind his ear.  It  just made the outfit, you know?
